The Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam announced ten contract-based research assistant positions at the East Sea Institute and the Institute for Strategic Studies. Eligible applicants are top graduates from cohorts K47–K49 and K49 graduates with distinction in the top 5% of average scores for each specialization, as defined in the notice. Applications were accepted September 3–4, 2026, so this registration period has ended.
The application period has ended
The notice was signed August 25, 2026. The Academy accepted applications in person September 3–4, 2026 or by post, with parcels required to arrive no later than September 4, 2026. The deadline had passed when this article was published on September 28, 2026.
The notice provisionally scheduled the written test for September 18, interviews for September 26, and recruitment results for October 10, 2026. The Academy may adjust dates on its website; this article describes a recruitment round, not an open invitation to submit applications.
How are the ten positions allocated?
The East Sea Institute recruits four International Relations research assistants using English or Chinese and two International Law assistants using English. The Institute for Strategic Studies recruits three International Relations assistants using English or Chinese and one International Law assistant using English.
Positions require a bachelor’s degree in the specified discipline. Listed language levels are IELTS 7.0 or equivalent for English and HSK 6 for Chinese. The Academy will consider certificates other than those specified in the notice.
Who is eligible for selection?
Eligible applicants are the top graduates of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam’s K47, K48, and K49 cohorts, or K49 graduates with distinction within the top 5% of cumulative academic averages in each specialization on a four-point scale. The Academy says eligible individuals will be emailed directly.
Applicants must also meet general conditions, diplomatic-sector standards, health requirements, and documentation requirements in the notice. Research published in ISI/Scopus journals or relevant disciplinary awards receives priority in selection.
The Academy allows candidates to apply for one position in either of its two 2026 recruitment rounds: research assistants at the two institutes, or teaching assistants and specialists at other units.

What does the selection process involve?
After application screening, round one is a 180-minute written test scored out of 100, assessing general knowledge, specialist knowledge, and foreign language skills. Candidates scoring at least 50% of the round-one scale proceed to round two.
Round two is an in-person interview on specialist knowledge and language skills, lasting up to thirty minutes with up to ten minutes of preparation. The notice states that eligible candidates meeting the required threshold are selected by total score, highest first, within each position’s quota. The Academy also verifies degrees and certificates and conducts background checks on candidates reaching the successful score.
